Summary
Widely distributed in intertidal waters throughout the UK and temperate waters. Various bodies, e.g. Natural England (formerly English Nature), Sea Fisheries Committees, Local Authorities etc. have responsibility for their protection or management in UK coastal waters. Avoid eating clams dredged from wild stocks. Choose clams harvested in the wild by sustainable methods only. Avoid eating undersized animals (less than 4cm) and wild clams harvested during the spawning season (May to June).
